This is their main focus, whether it's conscious or subconscious.

More than this, they are also completely terrified of rejection from women. This seems like a challenging quandary to live by, to me.

Many men (young men especially), want ‘muscles’. They believe this is one of the best strategies to be attractive & accepted by women they are attracted to. However, this strategy might be flawed, as firstly it only addresses superficial elements. In my experience, men are far more attractive when they have confidence - regardless of their ‘looks’. Secondly, women are not motivated to entertain men because they ‘have muscles’ only. There has to be more..there's nothing more attractive then confidence!

For instance, do men generally, (or women for that matter) work on developing their sense of humour? Or in my opinion more importantly, their strength of character?

It must be said that above all else (according to research but also in my experience) the most important element to attracting the person of your affections is showing them kindness & compassion. Although it takes confidence to be kind..

Note the difference here between showing kindness & being taken advantage of. Couple kindness with boundaries & it's a killer combination for increasing your attractiveness!

Following on from this idea, is another social aspect I would like to address which is the idea of ‘friend-zoning’. To me, this would be kindness without boundaries ie doing everything for the person of affection without setting boundaries, just because we like them. I also have never liked the term ‘friend zone’ though, as it dissolves the importance of true friendship, which is a great shame in a world where most people crave connection. Friendship should be valued & appreciated.

A more satisfying & constructive idea might be to work on ourselves to build our own confidence, through pushing ourselves to try new things (when we feel uncomfortable ie ‘feel the fear & do it anyway’), as well as building our integrity (doing the right thing even if no one is looking) & building self discipline (pushing ourselves to do something when we don't feel like it).

Kindness, compassion & tolerance are also great additions to building strength of character. Try as many things to educate yourself, as possible. New hobbies, books, skills on things you would never normally think about. It broadens your horizons, enriches your life, builds confidence of course but also…you never know what opportunities may arise! Stay open & remain teachable..

These are only a few examples but would be a great start in building confidence in ourselves. The more we do these things & do them consistently (self discipline), the greater our confidence is. Interestingly, this is also a self perpetuating cycle building on itself. It is a positive spiral to greatness, rather than focusing on what we look like.

Building on the original point about superficial elements, real women are ladies who are worth their weight in gold - the ‘marriage material’ ones. The women who understand appreciation of what's important in life. These women are dicerning in their choices & do not seek external validation & self worth from how much male attention they gain. These are the women to aim for.

They possess confidence, values & think for themselves. They should not be feared though. Men should never feel intimidated by them, as they also have great understanding & kindness. They appreciate when men approach them & if genuinely not interested, will decline advances with grace, so as not to harm the man, if he has been courageous enough to approach with respect.

Muscles are attractive to look at but serve little purpose unless physical strength is required in a situation, which is relatively uncommon. To reiterate, it is far more important to have confidence in ourselves & be self assured enough that we are not easily knocked by other's opinions.

The only way to achieve this is giving ourselves strength of character through opening up to as much experience, as we can. It helps also, if we can find some good & proper role models - people with integrity, life experience, morals & principles which they stand by. These could be historic figures who have contributed great positive impacts to the world. The Stoics (such as Marcus Aurelius) are as good a place to start, as any & offer great wisdom which still resonates today..HERE is a link to a useful YouTube channel about Stoicism.

I hope you enjoyed the last Movember blog.
