So many times, I've had men expressing to me that they get on better with women & cannot talk to their friends about issues which are bothering them\u2026and yet the suicide rate remains high & is becoming increasingly worse. While women were glad at the first chance to get things off their chests & would jump in with both feet without a second thought, men would usually require more time to get into a flow.<\/p>

I found the same story from many of them. As much as they considered their friends to be great for socialising etc, they couldn't talk to them about deeper issues, for fear of being ridiculed or being seen as \u2018less of a man\u2019..<\/p>

\"uzqtp7sdp29i3cri1xbgkmozbzkdikdu9kq8nkcastz3qgw9.jpg.jpg?w=1140&v=2\"Rightly or wrongly, my perspective would be ego issues in one form or another. Not necessarily of my clients but the people around them, as my clients were expressing a need for a safe communication space but were uneasy about opening up to friends.<\/p>

Importantly, many people grow up dreaming of getting a steady income, being married & having children but just what are we teaching our children?..<\/p>

Check out this \u201cEgo v Soul\u201d tshirt HERE <\/a>which was created to raise awareness for the increasing issues in today's world caused by Ego\/Soul imbalance. It appears to be already worryingly prevalent, through corporate environments, to family issues. My view would be, we must pay more attention to not only brushing up on our communication skills but also the now distant but basic values such as common courtesy & manners, respect & integrity.<\/p>

It's been a long-standing belief that men should not express their emotions - either to women or men, as they would appear less masculine to both other men & women. I have been told this over & again from men, even outside my work. Who decided on this view? Do the recipitents of the communication feel threatened?..What needs to happen to create a more receptive society?\u2026So many questions..<\/p>

My view is that open & honest communication takes strength & courage. Being vulnerable (in my view), is very<\/em> masculine - not to mention healthy. Of course, a healthy mentality requires balance in many aspects of life, not least diet & exercise but effective communication is the very foundation of healthy relationships of all kinds.<\/p>

Another view could be that the prospective listener of men, is giving into low self worth by making the speaker feel \u2018less than\u2019 (this is based in ego. The soulful alternative would be compassion for a fellow human).<\/p>

Maybe it reminds them of their own personal issues not yet resolved? With the world moving so fast these days, it has possibly become more challenging to reflect on our behaviours towards others properly & adjust things accordingly. Has the cost of convenience finally become too much?<\/p>

A popular movement a few years ago, it can be difficult to do at first but is more than worth it & also becomes easier the more we do it!<\/p>

Both parties benefit<\/strong> because little known fact,<\/em> the giver actually receives<\/em> through giving! It brings warmth to the day, in an otherwise cold & harsh world\u2026These acts of kindness can also be spread over a week..it's easier than it first appears & brightens the day for everyone. Who doesn't want that?!<\/p>

Here's a revelation!<\/strong>..listening<\/em> can also be an act of kindness! Imagine, knowing you made someone's day easier, just by listening to them..how does it make you feel? How would you feel if someone offered you a listening ear?\u2026just listening, without advice.<\/p>
